N2 TEEN VOLUNTEERING
Making a difference just one hour a week
The reasons for volunteering are as individual as each person. One can derive a lot out of volunteering, no matter how much time is given, even if it is just one hour a week. It will give the individual the ability to learn about their own self, learn about others and meet people. As each person helps others, they also find out that they help themselves.
In a study conducted by DoSomething.org, it has been shown that 93% of young people state that they want to volunteer, yet only a fraction of those carry through with the action.
Volunteering is really easy to do if people will take the time. Personally, I have embarked on many levels of volunteering that have given me great joy.
SEE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN!
In 2011, 25.7% of Oklahoma teenagers volunteered. Our state ranked 19th in the United States. Through awareness, encouragement and motivation, teens will be able to step out and be of service to others and will help to raise those percentages.
